Black Channa Puli Kulambu/Kondakadalai Puli Kuzhambu/ Tangy South Indian Black Chana Curry

Black Channa Puli Kulambu/Kondakadalai Puli Kuzhambu/ Tangy South Indian Black Chana Curry preparation with step by step photos and a quick video.

Ingredients
  • Black channa(Kondakadalai) - 1cup
  • Brinjals -4
  • Shallots (small onion) -20 chopped
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Garlic - 6 chopped
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Fenugreek seed(methi seed) - ¼ tsp
  • To roast and grind to a paste:
  • Shallots (Small onion) - ½ cup
  • Coconut - ¼ cup
  • Coriander powder - 2 tbsp
  • Sambar powder- 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Directions
  • Step 1 Take a pan and add oil.
  • Step 2 Add small onion and saute it well
  • Step 3 Add grated coconut and saute it well
  • Step 4 Add coriander powder
  • Step 5 Add sambar powder
  • Step 6 Add turmeric powder and saute it well
  • Step 7 Once it’s Cooldown, transfer to the mixer.
  • Step 8 Grind it in to smooth paste. Keep it aside.
  • Step 9 Take a pan and add oil.
  • Step 10 Add mustard seeds and let it splutter.
  • Step 11 Add fenugreek seed(methi seed) and saute it well.
  • Step 12 Add onion and saute it well.
  • Step 13 Add chopped garlic and saute it well.
  • Step 14 Add curry leaves and saute it well
  • Step 15 Add chopped Brinjals and saute it well for few minutes
  • Step 16 Add cooked black channa(Kondakadalai) and mix it well
  • Step 17 Add the prepared masala paste and saute it well
  • Step 18 Add tamarind extract and mix it well
  • Step 19 Add salt to taste and mix it well
  • Step 20 Add required water and mix it well
  • Step 21 Cover the lid and cook for 15 minutes. Until the flavours are absorbed well.
  • Step 22 Add coriander leaves and mix it well
  • Step 23 Serve it with white Rice

7. Once it’s Cooldown, transfer to the mixer.
