Sirukeerai (Spinach variant) is one of the easiest digestible food. This spinach is good to rectify kidney and eye related problems. It has a rich amount of iron and calcium which adds other numerous health benefits. In this recipe, we have just used spinach without daal to make it mild and greener.

Keerai Masiyal/ Spinach Mash / Sirukeerai Kadaiyal preparation with step by step photos and quick video.

Ingredients
  • Spinach (Sirukeerai)- 2 bunch (i used sirukeerai)
  • Small onion - 20
  • Green chilli -4
  • Jeera- 1 tsp
  • Coriander seed - 1/4th tsp
  • Tomato - 1
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
Directions
  • Step 1 Take a heavy bottom pan. Add one cup of water and bring to boil.
  • Step 2 Add whole green chilli.
  • Step 3 Add cleaned and washed spinach(Sirukeerai) and cook for 10 mins.
  • Step 4 Take a pan and add oil
  • Step 5 Add crushed jeera.
  • Step 6 Add crushed coriander seeds.
  • Step 7 Add chopped green chillis and saute it well.
  • Step 8 Add small onion and saute it well.
  • Step 9 Add chopped tomato and saute it well until mushy.
  • Step 10 Add salt to taste.
  • Step 11 Pour the tempering into the cooked spinach(Sirukeerai).
  • Step 12 Keep mashing the spinach in the pot with the heavy iron /wooden whisk until the spinach turnsAdd chopped tomato and saute it well until mushy. creamy. (You could also blend it with blender or food processor)
  • Step 13 Mix well and transfer it to a serving bowl.

Making of Keerai Masiyal/ Spinach Mash / Sirukeerai Kadaiyal:

 

  1. Take a heavy bottom pan. Add one cup of water and bring to boil.

2. Add whole green chilli.

3. Add cleaned and washed spinach(Sirukeerai) and cook for 10 mins.

4. Take a pan and add oil

5. Add crushed jeera.

6. Add crushed coriander seeds.

7. Add chopped green chillis and saute it well.

8. Add small onion and saute it well.

9. Add chopped tomato and saute it well until mushy.

10. Add salt to taste.

11. Pour the tempering into the cooked spinach(Sirukeerai).

12. Keep mashing the spinach in the pot with the heavy iron /wooden whisk until the spinach turn creamy. (You could also blend it with blender or food processor)

13. Mix well and transfer it to a serving bowl.
