Kongunadu Chicken Gravy Recipe – kozhi Kulambu

We could prepare various dishes using chicken but Kongunadu chicken gravy is one of my favorite dish.  This can be served for Rice or Roti. I would recommend to use broiler chicken with skin to enhance the taste. In this method , we will be using more pepper and garlic which will help for digestion. I will also use sambar powder  in recipe add to additional flavor to this dish. Let’s see the step by step method of making mouthwatering Kongunadu Chicken Gravy.

Kongunadu Chicken Gravy (Without Coconut)

Ingredients
  • Chicken – 1/2 kg(cut into bite size pieces)
  • Tomato – 1 chopped roughly
  • Coriander Leaves – 1 tbsp to garnish
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Chicken Masala -2 tbsp
  • Sambar Powder -1 tbsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • To Grind To A coarse paste
  • small Onion – 1/2 cup copped roughly
  • Ginger -1/2 piece
  • Garlic – 10 cloves
  • Green Chilli – 3
  • pepper-1 tsp
  • To Temper:
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Mustard -1/2 tsp
Directions
  • Step 1 Coarse paste the ingredients under ‘to grind’ and Set aside.
  • Step 2 Take pan heat oil add the items listed under ‘to temper’ let it splutter then add coarse paste and saute till its golden brown
  • Step 3 Add tomato
  • Step 4 Saute till raw smell leaves and soft and mushy
  • Step 5 Add chicken pieces mix it well
  • Step 6 Add turmeric powder,chicken masala,and sambar powder saute for a few minute.
  • Step 7 Add salt to taste mix it well and over the lid boil for 10 mins.after that add required water stir and boil for another 10 mins .
  • Step 8 Once oil separates and chicken is nicely blended with the gravy, add coriander leaves
  • Step 9 Serve hot rice and rotis

 MAKING OF KONGUNADU CHICKEN GRAVY:

1.  Wash the chicken using turmeric power. Take half cup of  small onion ,Garlic, Green Chili , Ginger and Pepper for grind coarse paste.

2.In the pan , heat oil  and add mustard. Let it splutter.

3. Add coarse paste and saute till its golden brown.

4. Add few slices of tomato. If you add more , it might increase the sour taste.

5. Saute till raw smell leaves.

6.  Once it’s soft and mushy , Add chicken pieces and mix it well .

7. Add turmeric powder,chicken masala and sambar powder.  Saute it for a few minute.

8. Add salt to taste and mix it well.  Cover the lid and boil for 10 mins.

9. Add required water.  Stir and boil for another 10 mins .

10. Once oil separates and chicken is nicely blended with the gravy, add coriander leaves .

11. Serve  the yummy Kongunadu Chicken Gravy  with hot Rice  & Roti.

Notes:

  • If you want less spicy, adjust spice quantity.
  • You could also try the same with country chicken (Nattukozhi) .
