This recipe delivers all of that and it’s incredibly delicious too! This is my first layered cake recipe and came out really well. Red food coloring and cake sponginess bring a red velvet effect to the cake. Cream cheese frosting is very important in this cake preparation. I have used Milky Mist cream cheese. Best Red Velvet Cake |How to make red velvet cake preparation with step by step photos and a quick video.

Ingredients
  • Maida ( plain flour / all purpose flour) - 2 1/3 cups
  • Corn flour - 2 tbsp
  • Cocoa powder unsweetened - ¼ th cup
  • Baking soda -1 tsp
  • Salt- ½ tsp
  • unsalted butter -½ cup (115 grams) softened to room temperature
  • granulated sugar -1¾ cups (350 grams)
  • Eggs -2 large room temperature
  • vegetable oil- ½ cup (120 ml)
  • Liquid red food color-2 tsp
  • Pure vanilla extract- 2 tsp
  • White vinegar -1tsp
  • Buttermilk -11/3 cups (320 ml)
  • For the cream cheese frosting:
  • Cream cheese -300 gms softened
  • Unsalted butter - ¾cup (175 grams) softened to room temperature
  • Powdered sugar- 3 cups (360 grams)
  • Pure vanilla extract - 2 tsp
Directions
  • Step 1 Preheat oven to 180°C. Take 6-inch cake pans, line the bottoms of the pans with parchment paper, and set them aside.
  • Step 2 Take a large mixing bowl and add maida
  • Step 3 Add cornflour
  • Step 4 Add baking soda
  • Step 5 Add salt
  • Step 6 Add cocoa powder and mix it well and keep it aside.
  • Step 7 Take another large mixing bowl and add softened butter
  • Step 8 add sugar and mix it well using an electric mixer on medium speed for 4-5 minutes.
  • Step 9 Add oil
  • Step 10 Add vanilla extract and mix it well
  • Step 11 Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition to combine well.
  • Step 12 Add dry ingredients in two additions alternating with the buttermilk and mix it well. Be careful don’t to mix the batter.
  • Step 13 Add vinegar and mix it well
  • Step 14 Add red food color and mix it well
  • Step 15 Now pour the batter into the prepared baking pan then gently shake and tap the tin couple of times to spread the batter evenly.
  • Step 16 Bake it in a preheated oven for about 20 minutes.
  • Step 17 Remove the cake pan from the heat and transfer the cake pan to a cooling rack. Allow cake to cool down completely.
  • Step 18 To make the cream cheese frosting: Take a mixing bowl and add butter
  • Step 19 Add cream cheese
  • Step 20 Add vanilla extract beat it well until well combined and smooth.
  • Step 21 Add powdered sugar and beat it well until frosting is light and fluffy
  • Step 22 To assemble the cake: Place one of the cake layers on a cake stand or plate, top with a layer of frosting, and smooth it out into one even layer.
  • Step 23 Place the second layer on top, then use the remaining frosting to frost the top and sides of the cake.
  • Step 24 Crumble trimmed pieces of cake to decorate

*To make your own buttermilk, mix 1 cup of full cream milk with 1 teaspoon vinegar before baking. Allow the milk to sour for 5-10 minutes.
