Mathi Fish Curry | Kerala Style Sardine Fish Curry preparation with step by step photos and a quick video. Mathi/sardine is one of the best fish variety and easy to obtain in India. Mathi/sardines are small oily fish which is highly nutritious. It has a good source of vitamin B12, selenium, and omega 3 fatty acids. It’s good for skin and hair too. Try to get small pieces of mathi, so that bones won’t be much stronger and easy to chew it.

Mathi Fish Curry | Kerala Style Sardine Fish Curry preparation with step by step photos and a quick video.

Ingredients
  • Mathi Fish (Sardine) - ½ kg
  • Grated coconut - 1 cup
  • Kashmiri red chilly powder - 2 tsp
  • Normal red chilly powder - 2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
  • Coriander powder (optional) - 1tbsp
  • salt -to taste
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Shallots (small onion)- 10 minced
  • Ginger - a small size minced
  • Tamarind (Kodampuli) -2 pieces
  • Green chilies - 3
  • Coconut oil - 1 tbsp
  • Shallots (small onion)- 10 chopped
  • Curry leaves - few
Directions
  • Step 1 Take a mixer-jar and add coconut
  • Step 2 Add normal red chilly powder
  • Step 3 Add kashmiri red chilly powder
  • Step 4 Add coriander powder
  • Step 5 Add turmeric powder
  • Step 6 Grind smooth paste by adding little amount of water.
  • Step 7 Take a pan and add the prepared masala paste
  • Step 8 Add water and adjust consistency
  • Step 9 Add minced shallots (small onion)
  • Step 10 Add minced ginger
  • Step 11 Add curry leaves and mix it well
  • Step 12 Cover the lid and boil for 10 minutes
  • Step 13 Add tamarind (Kodampuli)(if you don’t have kuda puli, you can use raw mango)
  • Step 14 Add salt to taste and mix it well
  • Step 15 Add cleaned fish pieces and gently mix
  • Step 16 Cook it for 2 minutes. Until the flavors are absorbed well.
  • Step 17 Take a tadka pan and add coconut oil
  • Step 18 Add small onion
  • Step 19 Add curry leaves and saute it well
  • Step 20 Pour the tempering into the fish curry and cover the lid for a minute
  • Step 21 Serve delicious mathi fish curry with hot boiled rice.

1.  Take a mixer jar and add coconut

6. Grind smooth paste by adding little amount of water.

11. Add curry leaves and mix it well

12. Cover the lid and boil for 10 minutes

13. Add tamarind (Kodampuli)(if you don’t haveKodampuli, you can use raw mango)

14. Add salt to taste and mix it well

15. Add cleaned fish pieces and gently mix

16. Cook it for 2 minutes. Until the flavors are absorbed well.

19. Add curry leaves and saute it well

20. Pour the tempering into the fish curry and cover the lid for a minute
