Sakkarai Pongal

 

Sweet Pongal is made with Raw rice, Moong Daal, Jegergry, Nuts and Dry fruits. The dish is made during the Pongal festival and very famous among the Tamil community. Sweet Pongal served as prasadam in many south Indian temples, especially in Tamilnadu. Sweet Pongal Recipe / Sakkarai Pongal / Temple style Sweet Pongal recipe preparation with step by step photos and a quick video.

Ingredients
  • Raw rice - ½ cup
  • Moong dal -¼ cup
  • Water -3 cups
  • Cardamom Powder(elachi powder) - 1 tsp
  • Edible camphor(pacha karpooram) -1 tiny pinch
  • Ghee - 2 tbsp
  • For jaggery syrup:
  • Jaggery - 1 cup
  • Water - ½ cup
  • For Frying Dry Fruits:
  • Ghee - 1tbsp
  • Cashew (Kaju) -10 whole
  • Raisins (kishmish)-2 tbsp
Directions
  • Step 1 Take a pressure cooker and add soaked rice
  • Step 2 Add soaked moong dal
  • Step 3 Add water and pressure cook for 4-5 whistles.
  • Step 4 make sure the dal and rice are cooked completely.
  • Step 5 Take a pan add jaggery
  • Step 6 Add water and mix it well
  • Step 7 Boil 2 minutes or until the jaggery melts completely.
  • Step 8 Filter the jaggery water into the cooked rice-dal mixture. Mix it well
  • Step 9 Cook for 2 minutes or until jaggery combines well with the rice-dal mixture.
  • Step 10 Add ghee and give a good mix till the sakkarai Pongal turns glossy.
  • Step 11 Take a tadka pan and add ghee
  • Step 12 Add cashew and saute it until golden-brown
  • Step 13 Add raisins and saute it well
  • Step 14 Add the fried cashews and kishmish into sweet Pongal.
  • Step 15 Add cardamom powder
  • Step 16 Add small piece edible camphor and mix it well.
  • Step 17 Sweet Pongal / Sakkarai Pongal is ready.

Making of Sweet Pongal Recipe / Sakkarai Pongal / Temple style Sweet Pongal Recipe:

1.  Take a pressure cooker and add soaked rice

3. Add water and pressure cook for 4-5 whistles.

4. Make sure the dal and rice are cooked completely.

7. Boil 2 minutes or until the jaggery melts completely.

9. Cook for 2 minutes or until jaggery combines well with the rice-dal mixture.

10. Add ghee and give a good mix till the sakkarai Pongal turns glossy.
